Cozy + Neutral Christmas Decor
When I was growing up, I used to insist that our Christmas tree be decorated with colorful lights only. In fact, I was whole-heartedly Team "Bah, Humbug" towards any sort of plain white lights, or neutral color scheme for that matter. It was the holidays, after all, a time to be festive -- and by golly, festive meant all of the colors!
Well, as is often the case with most childhood sentiments, my taste has completely reversed, and you'll find nary a colorful light on my tree. These days, my holiday aesthetics lean firmly in the direction of Scandinavian with a minimal color palette and warm, hygge vibes. If you should find yourself in the same camp, here are a few DIY ideas to deck your halls in all the white lights and neutral colors your heart desires.
Asymmetrical Wreath
The base starts with a store-bought grapevine wreath, which I pulled apart to create a more unruly look. (Tip: With this method, you can create three to four separate wreaths from one grapevine wreath.) Placing the florals asymmetrically feels more modern and fresh. Get the full how-to on Hunker.
Wooden Wonderland
Create a festive forest scene for your mantel using wooden beads. Among the tree species featured are a spruce tree, an elm tree, and a boxwood tree. A bit of wood stain creates various earthy tones and textures that really emphasize the rustic, woodsy look. Find the tutorial here.
Scandinavian Stars
Even if you're an origami novice, you can easily make your own stars in your paper color or pattern of choice. I opted for a tonal color palette of warm and cool grays, and strung them up with leather cord for a luxe look. Full details can be found here.
